UPDATE: We are very excited to be running the breakfast and after school club ourselves from September 2026. This will be called Kingfisher Club.

Kingfisher Club Frequently Asked Questions

1. What will Barham Primary School’s new Breakfast and After School Club be called?

Kingfisher Club.

2. When will the new Kingfisher Club start?

September 2026.

3. What hours will the school’s Breakfast and After School Club run?

The hours will be in line with the new school day timings from 2026:

Breakfast Club will operate 7:45am to 8:35am

After School Club will operate two sessions, allowing greater flexibility:

Early session – 3:15pm to 4:30pm

Twilight Session – 3:15pm to 6pm

4. Will children who currently attend still have their space?

Absolutely. Any child attending the current club will be able to have a space at our Breakfast/After School Club in September.

5. How will bookings be made?

Bookings will be made, via Arbor, like with Kingfishers After School Club. We hope to have the flexibility of booking weekly and/or termly. Payment can be made by Arbor.

6. Can we use Childcare Vouchers?

Yes, families will be able to use Childcare Vouchers to make payment.

We have to create an account with your voucher provider in order to receive the payments. We already have accounts with the Government Tax Free Childcare Voucher Scheme, Bravo and Edenred, so you will be able to find us on their sites. If you use another provider, let us know and we can set up an account with them.

Once set up, if you can let us know when you send payments across we can get Arbor credited for the voucher amount. You can use that balance to book.

7. How much will it cost?

Although it still needs to be confirmed, we expect the costs to be:

Breakfast Club will operate 7:45 am to 8:35am - £4

After School Club:

Early session – 3:15pm to 4:30pm - £5 (like the current Kingfishers session)

Twilight Session – 3:15pm to 6pm - £10

For families in receipt of Pupil Premium/Free School Meals, there will be a reduced cost – more details to follow.

8. Who will be running the club?

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Kim Ward as our Manager. Kim has previous management experience and holds a Level 2 Children and Young People’s Workforce qualification (covering ages from babies to 18 years) as well as a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification. She is also certified in Paediatric First Aid and is a Designated Safeguarding Lead. With 12 years of experience working with children, Kim’s previous roles include being a Play Worker at a Children’s Centre and a Pre School Assistant at Barham Pre-School. She has currently been a valued Teaching Assistant at our school for the past four years. Kim will have other team members working alongside her that currently work in school as Teaching Assistants.

9. What facilities will the club use?

The club base will remain our current Art Room. The children will also be able to enjoy the outdoor space, the field and the playground. They will also be able to utilise the OPAL activities.

We hope to keep the school hall free for activity clubs – watch this space.

10. My child has SEND, can they attend?

We are committed to ensuring that all children, including those with SEND, can attend Kingfishers. As we already have a clear understanding of the needs of our children with additional needs, their individual adjustments and support plans will be seamlessly transferred to the breakfast and afterschool clubs. We will continue to work closely with parents, carers, and our SENCO, Mrs Anderson, to ensure activities and routines are adapted appropriately to meet each child’s needs.

11. Can the children still climb trees?

Absolutely! Risk taking play is part of our OPAL provision.

If you want to see OPAL in action, come along to our afternoon of OPAL play on 11th June. Come and see what the children get up to at break and lunch times and what they will be able to continue to enjoy at Kingfishers before and after school.

12. Why have we made the change?

The contract with Barham Badgers is due to expire this summer. The school’s Governing Body took the decision to not renew this contract.

By running the provision in-house, we can offer wraparound care to all our families and make the provision more accessible.

13. What benefits are there for the children?

• The children will be able to enjoy all the current play areas they currently do plus the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) resources 😊

• They will know the staff and the routines and rules will remain consistent throughout the school day.

14. What benefits are there for the parents?

• Greater flexibility with booking and payments. Families will no longer have to pay 12 weeks’ in advance of their sessions.

• No overlap or handover – medical issues will be logged on Medical Tracker. Behaviour/safeguarding issues or concerns will be logged in our school systems. Staff will be able to access these systems.

• A Designated Safeguarding Lead will be in attendance at every session.

15. How far in advance do I need to book?

The finer details for this need to be confirmed. But we hope that for permanent bookings these can be arranged before the start of term.

Ad-hoc bookings may require at least 24 hours’ notice.

As is the case with the current Kingfishers provision, we hope to be able to accept some same-day requests if space allows.

16. What’s the difference between a permanent and ad-hoc booking?

• Permanent booking – The same days each week during term time, guaranteed space.

• Ad-hoc booking – Flexible, booked as needed, subject to availability.

17. Can I change or cancel a booking?

Yes, of course. Notice periods vary, which you will be notified in due course.

18. Is there any paperwork, registration fee or process?

No there is no registration fee.

A registration form may be needed – more details to follow.

19. What happens if the club is full?

Wherever possible, we hope to accommodate any request. In the event we are full for a permanent booking, children will be placed on a waiting list, and families will be contacted if a space becomes available.

20. Do I still pay if my child is absent?

In most cases, yes, unless you cancel within the required notice period.

Any other questions, please ask!

Current Wraparound Care until July 2026.....

We currently have a breakfast and after school club that is independently run by Mr and Mrs Gower (who own New House Nursery). The school will be running this provision in-house from September 2026.

Your child can come and experience a wealth of activities and be cared for in a safe, friendly environment by a professional team of staff.
